What is the Open category?

The Open category is the IOOVC competition open to anyone, anywhere, with no proof or affiliation required: professionals, hobbyists and one-person companies. Registration is US$ 60 per project and competes for its own podium, with first place up to $50,000 at the top tier of the prize ladder.

Who can enter and what it costs

Anyone, anywhere, since it all happens online. The Open asks for nothing beyond the US$ 60 fee per project and the consents: the Terms of Use, the Privacy Policy (GDPR/LGPD) and confirming you are 18+ or have parental authorization.

Registration asks only for the category and your email; your details and the project's are filled in later, in the member area, by November 1, 2026. There is a right of withdrawal: a full, self-service refund within 7 days of payment.

The Open prizes

The prize ladder has 15 registration tiers. In the first (1–99), first place takes $500; in the top tier (10,000+), $50,000 for first, $25,000 for second and $10,000 for third.

From the 1,000–1,999 tier onward there are honourable mentions of $100 per person, from 4th place to the tier's last paid placement (at the top, through 500th). What counts is the tier the competition is in on October 31, 2026.

Open or University?

The same committee, the same criteria, and double every step of the prize ladder. A student may choose either competition, and may enter different projects in each: every registration is paid separately and judged on its own.

The Open is the place for anyone who wants a portfolio with an independent assessment, to showcase their projects and to monetize them.

When this matters

You already work or run a business and want an independent assessment of what you built.

You are not a student and want to know whether there is a category for you.

You are a student and are weighing whether to go for the bigger Open prize.

Our position

Professionals, hobbyists and one-person companies: everyone is welcome. The Open exists for anyone who wants to build a portfolio with an independent assessment, showcase the project and, if it makes sense, monetize it.
